MGA & MJGA Championship Update - May 13, 2020

MGA & MJGA Members & Member Clubs, 

The Mississippi Golf Association hopes that all of you and your families continue to be safe and well during this pandemic. Our greatest concern continues to be the well-being and safety of everyone involved, and we are respecting the advice of our government and health officials, CDC, and other leaders in regards to our upcoming championship schedule.

As of May 13th the Mississippi Golf Association has decided to extend the postponement of its Championship Schedule based on the current Safer in Place Executive Order and the restrictions and guidelines that it contains along with the current CDC recommendationsThe postponement will now be extended through June 15, 2020. This extension will now include the postponement of the State Games Junior Championship as well as the Women's Amateur Championship
 
The staff continues to provide advisory to all of our Member Clubs if needed at this time and postponements or cancellations of any MGA or MJGA Sanctioned Events will also be communicated through the MGA via email and social media. At this time the following championship schedule changes have been made:

Bill Cass Senior Four-Ball (Postponed) - New Date is Sept. 4-6, 2020
 
Players who have already registered for this event will remain in the event. Any players looking to withdraw from the event for any reason will be given a 100% refund of their entry fee. We ask that any players looking to withdraw contact the MGA at 601-939-1131 or email our Tournament Director, Adam Smith, at adam@missgolf.org* Please note that Division Ages will be based on the new tournament dates.


Governor's Cup (Postponed) - New Date is TBD
 
The yearly Governor's Cup between Mississippi and Arkansas has been postponed. The MGA is working closely with Tunica National and the Arkansas State Golf Association to find a new date and as soon as that is finalized we will inform all players who earned an invitation. 
 
 
Mid-Am Championship (Postponed) - New Date is Oct. 23-25, 2020
 
The Men's and Women's Mid-Amateur Championship has been postponed to the new dates above. Players who have already registered for this event will remain in the event. Any players who have already registered looking to withdraw from the event for any reason will be given a 100% refund of their entry fee. We ask that any players looking to withdraw contact the MGA at 601-939-1131 or email our Tournament Director, Adam Smith, at adam@missgolf.org.
 
 
State Games Junior Championship (Postponed) - New Date is TBD
 
The State Games Junior Championship was scheduled to be played at Diamondhead CC on June 8-9, 2020. Due to the current Safer in Place Order this event will be postponed. A current postponement date has not been set but the MGA Staff will release the date as soon as it is finalized. Players who have already registered for the event will remain in the event. Any players who have already registered looking to withdraw from the event for any reason will be given a 100% refund of their entry fee. We ask that any player looking to withdraw contact the MGA at 601-939-1131 or email our Tournament Director, Adam Smith, at adam@missgolf.org.
 
 
Women's State Amateur  (Postponed) - New Date is August 7-9, 2020
 
The Women's State Amateur Championship scheduled to be played at Diamondhead CC has been postponed to the new dates listed above. Players who have already registered for this event will remain in the event. Any players who have already registered looking to withdraw from the event for any reason will be given a 100% refund of their entry fee. We ask that any players looking to withdraw contact the MGA at 601-939-1131 or email our Tournament Director, Adam Smith, at adam@missgolf.org.
 
 
MJGA SCHEDULE
 
The only MJGA event that is being currently affected by this announcement is the State Games Junior Championship. All other MJGA Sanctioned Events that are scheduled before June 15th are still scheduled to be played on their posted dates. If any changes are made to those events by the Host Clubs the MGA will announce via email and social media platforms.

Greenwood Junior Invitational - June 3-4, 2020 @ Greenwood Country Club
Future Tour Championship - June 6-7, 2020 @ Greenville Country Club
Norman Puckett Junior - June 13-14, 2020 @ Duncan Park Golf Course
 
FUTURE POSTPONEMENTS
 
At this time no MGA events beyond June 15th have been affected or postponed and the MGA is hopeful that this will remain the situation. The MGA will continue to closely monitor the quickly changing climate and lean on the recommendations and mandates provided from the Government and Health Officials to make any future decisions regarding tournament golf. Any further updates or changes will once again be communicated through email and all social media platforms.
 
As of now the MGA plans to open its tournament season with the Father-Son/Daughter on June 19-21 and the Men's State Amateur on June 25-28, 2020.
