December 31, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- John Michael Miller and Great Southern Golf Club

John Michael Miller

This weeks feature player is John Michael Miller of Gulfport, MS. John is the son of John and Carolyn Miller and is in middle school. John was the recipient of our Sportsmanship Award after showing great sportsmanship on and off the golf course this year. John played in both our Cup Matches this year, in the River Cup he helped MS win over LA. He also played in the Cup Matches and helped the Palmer triumph over the Nicklaus team. John also played in 6 events this year and got Top 10 in all 6 events. He came in 3rd in the MS/LA Championship, Pros of Tomorrow, and Randy Watkins Junior and he came in 1st in the Norman Puckett Junior. We hope to see more of John next season as we all know that he will only improve in his game and I'm sure we will be seeing hold a a lot more trophies next year.

Great Southern Golf Club

Welcome to the Great Southern Golf Club -- the birthplace of golf in Mississippi.  Great Southern is also among the top 20 oldest golf courses in the United States and was once a regular stop on the professional golf tour.  Former U.S. Presidents and many of the great legends of golf played here.  The unique location overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi Sound enhances the golf experience with magnificent sea and sky vistas and fresh ocean breezes.  The golf course was designed and inspired by world-famous golf course designer Donald Ross in 1908.  The first nine holes were built in 1908 and Mr. Ross' vision of the second nine was completed in 1922.  In 1999, the golf course was completely updated and modernized to PGA standards.  In 2013 and 2014 we completed major renovations and improvements that make the golf course an outstanding golf experience and value for members and guests.  The course is challenging and enjoyable for all levels of players, men and women, and young and old.  Also, our new 4,800 square-foot clubhouse features The 1908 Bar and Grill and Pro Shop, open daily 7 AM to 8 PM. Our Club is open to the public and offers a full array of golf services to support both individuals and groups.


December 24, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Brice Wilkinson and Old Waverly Golf Club

Brice Wilkinson

Madison- This weeks feature player is Brice Wilkinson of Madison, MS. Brice is the son of Brad and Kim Wilkinson and is a Sophomore in high school. Brice didn't really play in many tournaments this year, but the ones he did play in he came runner up in his division right behind Cameron Clarke at the Old Waverly Junior and tied for 5th in the B division at the Big I Qualifier at Ole Miss GC. We wish we could see more of Brice in our tournaments, but we are sure he is a very busy boy, and we know he will just get better and better with his game as the years go on. We hope to see more of Brice as the 2014 golf season comes to a close and the 2015 golf season starts up.

Old Waverly Golf Club

West Point- This weeks feature club is Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS. Old Waverly is one of Mississippi's premier golf clubs to be a member at and to even play, it has holes that will even challenge the best golfer, and after you are done playing you can go and get something to eat or drink at their exclusive bar they have. Old Waverly is was built by the Bryan family who once owned the Bryan foods which was also located in West Point, you can see the remains of the factory as you drive to Old Waverly. Old Waverly has held many major events, including: 2006 U.S. Women's Mid Amateur, 1999 U.S. Womens Open, and in 1990 they held the Men's and Women's SEC Championship and the Southern Golf Association Women's and Junior Championship, this year they also held the Handa Cup. Old Waverly has also held many of our events this year, including: Old Waverly Invitational, the Old Waverly Junior Invitational, Bryan Cup Club Team Championship, and they also held the Trustmark MPGA Invitational.

 


December 10, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Kirk Reeder and Tupelo Country Club

This weeks feature player is Kirk Reeder of Tupelo, MS. Kirk even though he is small can still shoot a good round of golf. Kirk is our 2014 Pros of Tomorrow champion after shooting 73 the first day and 73 the second for an overall score of 146. Kirk played in 4 events this year and won one of them and tied for 6th in the Greenwood Junior Invitational after shooting an overall round of 155.. Kirk is a Senior in high school this year and is a member at Tupelo Country Club, so no wonder he won the Pros of Tomorrow it is his home course. We love having Kirk play in all of our tournaments, and we hope to see more of him more as the 2015 season comes around. We also wish Kirk good luck as his last year of high school golf comes to an end and we hope he goes out with a bang.

December 3, 2014 - Feature Player and Club - Cameron Clarke and Bay Pointe Golf Club

Cameron Clarke

This weeks feature player is Cameron Clarke of Pittsboro, MS. Cameron is one of our more serious players on the MJGA, he is always looking for a good round of golf and he is a fierce competitor. You can try to make him smile but he has a poker of champions always looking serious. Cameron played in 8 of our events 2 being both the Cup Matches. In the Cup Matches he helped MS win at Greenwood by scoring 31/2 points for MS. On the coast he was on the Palmer, and he helped his team win by scoring 4 points for his team. In other sanctioned events he has played in 6 and has come in the Top 5 in 4 events, but no wins this year. We look forward to seeing Cameron's golf game improve next year and seeing him win some tournaments next year because we all know he has it in him.

November 19, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Conner Beth Ball and Reunion Golf and Country Club

This week's feature player is Conner Beth Ball from Madison, Mississippi. Conner Beth is a Sophomore at Jackson Academy and is currently on the golf team there.

Conner Beth plays in a lot of our tournaments each year and we love having her at each tournament because we know she will always turn in a low score and we love watching her play. Conner Beth played in 6 tournaments this year, 1 being both cup matches. She won the Big I Qualifier in Oxford, MS, she tied for 10th in the USGA Girls Qualifier, and she came in 3rd in the Pros of Tomorrow in Tupelo. Conner Beth helped us win this years Junior River Cup Matches against Louisiana winning 2 out of three matches she was in. Conner Beth has been with the MJGA for a while now and we always love having her at tournaments. We hope to see a lot more of Conner Beth as the 2015 golf season quickly approaches.

November 3, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Moak Griffin and Lion Hill Golf Club

This week's Feature Player of the Week is Moak Griffin (far right) of Columbus, MS. Moak has played in 6 events this year and has gotten in the Top 10 in every single one of them. He won the Old Waverly Invitational after shooting three under par, he was runner up in The Pros of Tomorrow, Trusted Choice Big I Qualifier, and the Junior Amateur. Moak also played in the Junior River Cup Matches this year and helped the Mississippi Team win by winning 1 point on the Fourball Matches and getting 2.5 points in the singles matches. We love having Moak play in all our events, we look forward to seeing him play in the B division next year and see how he does.

Lion Hill Golf Club

This weeks feature club is Lion Hills Golf Club, or Columbus Country Club as it was once known. Four years after the Columbus Country Club was founded in 1923, East Mississippi Junior College was formed in Kemper County and later expanded into Lowndes County. And now, these two institutions have merged their common tradition of serving the citizens of Columbus and Lowndes County. Lion Hills is up and running, serving former members of the Columbus Country Club and signing up new ones, welcoming visitors to the golf course, hosting community events and planning for the future. November 4, 2014 - BankPlus Friends of Children's Golf Junior Pro Am

Jackson - Fourty juniors anxiously awaited the 3:30 shotgun at the Country Club of Jackson this afternoon at the BankPlus Friends of Children's Golf Sanderson Farms Junior Pro Am. These invited participants have practiced continually for the past several months to attain their goal of playing in the Junior Pro Am.

The team of Professional, David Duval, and Junior Amateurs, Benjamin Nelson, CJ Easley, Carlee Nanney and Brandon Carpenter were low for the day at seven under. Congratulations to all the Mississippi Junior Golfers for their outstanding play.

The Mississippi Junior Golf Association along with all the parents and junior participants, extend their thanks our sponsor, BankPlus, and the Sanderson Farms Championship staff who made this possible. October 22, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Benjamin Nelson and Fulton CC

Benjamin Nelson

This weeks feature player is Benjamin Nelson of Madison, MS. Benjamin is the son of Benji and Lauren Nelson, Benjamin is a Sopohomore at Madison Central High School and is currently on the golf team. Benjamin played in 6 tournaments this year and he put up some impressive scores in all those tournaments, no wins this year but he did come close in the MS/LA Championship at Wolf Hollow Golf Club when he finished in 8th place.Benjamin has also been a part of the 2012 and 2013 Junior Cup Matches and the MS/LA Junior Cup Matches. We always enjoy having Benjamin play in all of our tournaments, he always brings laughter and he always puts up some impressive scores. We look forward to seeing Benjamin only improve in his game as the 2015 golf season approaches.

Fulton CC

This weeks feature club is Fulton Country Club. Fulton Country Club was establised is 1965 in Fulton, MS, this course is a beautiful 9 hole course that measures just over 3000 yards from the back tee. There have been some good golfers come off of that course that have won a lot of events for us, including: Clay Homan, Carlee Nanney, Ken Hogue, Rickey Riley, and many more. It is $28 dollars to play this impressive course, so give them a call and book a tee time I think you will be thoroughly impressed.


October 15, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Andy Ogletree and Greenville CC

Andy Ogletree

This weeks feature player is Andy Ogletree, the son of Melissa and Jim Ogletree, and is from Little Rock, MS. In the small town of Little Rock stands a junior golfer that is second to nobody. Andy Ogletree is 16 years old and is our 2014 Future Tour Champion for the 2nd year in row.

Andy also did very good in the State Amateur with a tie for 16th place after shooting 74,73, 70, 79 with an overall score of 296, that isn't too bad in a field of 152 players. Andy also played in our Southern States Junior Cup Matches this year in Dalhousie, Missouri. He won 2 out his 3 matches in the cup matches. We hope to see more of Andy next season and we always love having him in our tournaments, he always brings some fierce competition and we love seeing him play and perform at his best.

Greenville CC
This weeks feature club is The Greenville Golf and Country Club that held our Future Tour Championship, our Governer's Cup, and our Greenville Invitational. It is an 18 hole course that is open year round. The club features a full service pro shop, driving range, short game practice area and locker rooms. Greenville Golf and Country Club is a private member owned club that opened at its present location in 1952. Guest fees at GGCC are $36 for 18 holes and $25 for 9 holes. Cart rental rates are $14 for 18 holes and $7 for 9 holes.The driving range is available to members and guests. Range rates are $5 per bag. The golf course is closed on Mondays except holidays. Invited guests of members may play at anytime. Unaccompanied out of town guests may play at the golf professionals invitation.

September 10, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Hayden Buckley and Northwood CC

Hayden Buckley

Hayden Buckley is the son of Kim and Bob Buckley. Hayden was introduced to the game of golf at the age of 6 and has been a big part of the MJGA for over 6 years now. Over the past years Hayden has reached levels that most kids dream of as kids. Hayden is from Tupelo, MS and played golf for Tupelo High School. Hayden was our 2013 MJGA Player of the Year.  As for his junior golf career outside of school  

Hayden has made quite a name for himself. In the 2014 State Junior Amateur Championship at Northwood Country Club he finished 2nd overall and won the Division A title. He has racked up five age division titles and two overall division titles in only 22 events in five years. He has been a part of our Junior Cup Matches for the past 6 years, and was on the Mississippi Team at the MS/LA Junior Cup Matches in 2012. " I played a lot of AJGA tournaments over the past few years, ranging from Richmond, Virginia to Sarasota, Florida. I've played in the Southern Junior, which was by far one of my best experiences, being able to play against some of the best golfers in the world. The MJGA was where it all started and where I have been able to meet some great people. From the MJGA staff to my playing competitors, I have always loved the MJGA, and it will be greatly missed", explained Buckley.

Hayden is a freshman, playing golf for the University of Missouri. Joining the Tigers and the SEC this season will be a tough task, but one that he is looking forward to. " I'd like to play in the top 5 for all four years at Missouri, and of course help them win a National Championship, and after college we will see what I can do professionally. If that doesn't work out I will most likely go into the medical field." Hayden has always been a first class guy on and off the golf course. A great competitor, but also a great friend to all of his competitors. We wish him nothing but the best as he goes into his college career. 

Northwood CC

This week we are featuring the golf course that held our Junior Amateur, Northwood Country Club. Chartered in 1929, Northwood Country Club is one of the South's oldest and most prestigious clubs. Located inside the city limits of Meridian, Mississippi, Northwood Country Club is nestled among rolling hills, mature pines, hardwoods and lovely Southern landscaping. In addition to the beautiful setting and convenient location, Northwood provides its members with all of the amenities of a full-service, private club and is an excellent choice for today's active family.   


September 3, 2014 - Feature Player and Club- Charlie Miller and Timberton CC

Charlie Miller

Charlie is the son of Ken and Caroline and has one younger brother, John. Charlie plays golf at the Country Club of Jackson. His swing coach is Cliff Bailey of Annandale Golf Club. Charlie is a sophomore at Jackson Prep where he has maintained a 4.0 GPA. He has played on the Jackson Prep golf team since 7th grade. He has been the MAIS South State Champion as well as the Prep player of the year for the past 2 years. In 2014 he helped lead Jackson Prep to a MAIS Championship record breaking 281 team score to win the State championship, he was also the runner up individually with a 68. Charlie's 2014 summer was bright, he won the USGA Junior Boys qualifier at Hattiesburg Country Club and was honored to be one of five boys representing Mississippi at the USGA Junior Amateur Championship at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. He made the cut to match play and came in 37th of 155.

Other notable tournaments over the summer, Charlie had 3 top tens in national tournaments including sixth place at the AJGA Junior at Steelewood, ninth place at The Southern Junior Championship and fifth at The Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament. Charlie ended his summer on a high note and one he is very proud of. He came from behind with a 77-70-66 to clinch a victory at the Mississippi Boys Junior Amateur Championship. Charlie is currently ranked 16th in the Golfweek rankings for the class of 2017 and his looking forward to traveling to Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon in October to compete in the AJGA Nike Junior All Star Invitational. Other than golf, Charlie enjoys fishing, hanging out with friends and watching sports events.

Timberton CC

October 5, 2014 - Palmer team holds on to the lead to win the Cup

Gulfport- Eighteen juniors stood proudly on the steps of the Great Southern Golf Club this afternoon eagerly awaiting their chance to capture a picture of themself with the Junior Cup. The Palmer Team, Lead by Captain Kyle Sisk, started the morning with a three stroke lead and continued to gain speed through the individual match play.

The final point totals came to Team Palmer with 44.5 to Team Nickalus with 36.5. In Kyle's fourth year as a captain of a Junior Cup Team he was pleased with the results and graciously accepted the trophy on behalf of the Palmer Team. The Nicklaus Team captain, Tommy Snell, congratulated the team as well and stood by to extend his good wishes to everyone.

Many gathered last evening for the player dinner, where captains paired the singles matches, player of the year awards were extended and the Sportsman and Robbie Webb Awards announced. The MJGA Sportsmanship award was given to John Michael Miller. Miller was recognized by the staff as always acting in the true spirit of the game and exhuding qualities of a true gentleman while on and off the golf course. We congratulate John Michael on this recognition and encourage others to do the same. In adition to this, the Robbie Webb recipient was announced. Robbie Webb was mentor, friend and coach of many rising junior golfers over his years at the Country Club of Canton in Canton, Mississippi. One of Robbie's students, Kyle Sisk, has continued to dedicate his energy and passion for the game in his work. In Kyle's fourth year as a captain of a Junior Cup Team, he was awarded the Robbie Webb award this evening. We thank Kyle for his efforts in growing the game and his hard work as Director of Golf at the Randy Watkins Golf Group. 

Many thanks to the staff at Great Southern Golf Club and in particular, Head Golf Professional, David Lee. The Mississippi Junior Golf Association was welcomed to the club and juniors enjoyed the experience of playing one of the oldest clubs in this great state.

October 4, 2014 - Palmer team takes the lead after Four-Ball

Great Southern Golf Club-It was a cool brisque day with harsh winds as our cup teams started their Four-Ball matches. The Palmer team lead by Kyle Sisk scored 15 points on the day, but they are leading as the reigning champion Nicklaus team led by captain Tommy Snell scored 12 points. With Singles matches set to play tomorrow morning. We hope for the wind to die down so that our golfers can keep warm and maintain the same excitement that goes with these matches. Both teams look forward to Singles matches tomorrow and hope to secure a win, here at the MJGA are looking forward to seeing of things play out. Twenty-Four Juniors to participate in the ISPS Handa Cup at Old Waverly Golf Club

West Point-Twenty-four of Mississippi's top juniors were invited to participate in the  Blue Cross & Blue Shield Pro-Am on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Old Waverly Golf Club. The Blue Cross & Blue Shield Pro-Am is part of the ISPS Handa Cup. The ISPS Handa Cup is an official Legends Tour event. It is an International team competition featuring 24 LPGA Players: 12 US-born LPGA Legends versus 12 Internationally-born LPGA Legends.  Old Waverly GC has extended invitations to  24 of our MJGA players to play in the Pro-Am with the LPGA Players and community supporters of the ISPS Handa Cup. We encourage everyone to come out and support the LPGA Legends and our MJGA members. The juniors participating include: Tripp Rush, Carson Butler, Carter Armstrong, Cole Hubbell, Connor Beth Ball, Walker Gibens, Lucy Martin, Ben Harrell, Moak Griffin, Blair Stockett, Wells Williams, Dalton Ford, JB Harrell, Blake Weeden, Wyatt Allen, John Snoddy, Jon Facella, Brookes Hudson, Hunter Atkins, Chapman Suggs, Kathleen Gallagher, Cohen Trolio, Collins, Trolio, and Nicholas Flannagan.

September 14, 2014 - Mississippi Comes Back to take home the River Cup

Greenwood- As teams gathered around the eighteenth green there were many whispers heard from both Team Mississippi and Team Louisiana alike. How do we stand? Do you think we will win this match? Did you win your match? Both teams were anxiously awaiting to hear the final results of the 2014 River Cup.

This year the singles matches began with Louisiana in the lead with a solid 11 points to Mississippi's 9 points. With sixty points left in Sunday's single matches, there was a great amount of golf to played. Both teams came out strong and each golfer knew what was needed.

The result came down to the final match, where Mississippi reached over the hump to finish with 42.5 points to 37.5 points of Louisiana.

Many thanks to all for the support of junior golf both here in Mississippi and Louisiana. A special thank you to the hospitality of Greenwood Country Club for extending their facility to the teams in their usual hospitable fashion. We certainly thank head golf professional, Randy Bensley, for bringing us to Greenwood once again and for his preparation for the matches.

Safe travels to all as Mississippi and Louisiana returns home. Team Mississippi looks forward to a year from now when we will travel to Louisiana for the 2015 River Cup.

September 13, 2014 - Louisiana takes early lead after day 1 at the Junior River Cup

Greenwood Country Club- It was a beautiful day as the clouds maintain ed cover over the sun to e provide a wonderful atmosphere for our golfers. In the mornings Four-Ball matches, Louisiana took the lead winning the matches with six points to Mississippi's four. The states then tied at five points each in the Foursome matches in the afternoon. At days end Louisiana stands with eleven points to reigning champion Mississippi's nine, with Singles matches set to play tomorrow morning. We hope for the same great weather tomorrow as we had today and look forward to an exciting finish between these two great states. September 7, 2014 - White and Baggett take the win at Lake Caroline

Madison- It was an overcast humid day at Lake Caroline Golf Club as another year of the  Randy Watkins Junior comes to and end, many under par rounds were turned in today. In the A division Camden Backel from Madison, MS took 1st place after finishing with an impressive score of eight under par 136. In the B division is Hayden White from Benton, LA, Hayden not only won the B division but is the overall winner after finishing with ten under par 134 and for winning this tournament his name will forever be on the Mike Taylor plack in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. In 2nd place is Cameron Mobley from Brandon, MS and Simms Abney from Madison, MS  after they both finished with three under par 141, but after a scorecard playoff Simms took 2nd place and Cameron took 3rd place. In the C division Cohen Trolio from West Point, MS came in 1st after shooting two rounds of even par and finishing the tournament with a 144. In 2nd place is Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS after finishing three over for the tournament and shooting 147, and in 3rd place is Kye Meeks from Walnut, MS who finished up six over par and 150 for the tournament. In the G division Presley Baggett from Canton, MS took the win after shooting a twenty six over par round and ending up with a 170 for the tournament, and in 2nd place is Anne Carrie Swoope after shooting a 58 over par round and finishing 202 for the tournament. In the D division Wells Williams from West Point, MS came in 1st after shooting eight over par, 80, for the tournament. In 2nd place is Patton Kincaid V after shooting eleven over par, 83, for the tournament, and in 3rd place is Carrington Newell from Halls, TN after shooting fourteen over par, 86, for the tournament. In the E division is William Marshall from Madison, MS after shooting fourteen over par, 86, came in 1st. In 2nd place is Davis Owens from Madison, MS  after shooting sixty four over par, 136, and in 3rd place is Patrick Ebel form Madison, MS after shooting seventy seven over par, 177. September 6, 2014 - White and Baggett take an early lead at Randy Watkins Junior

Madison- It was nice and hot for the players today as we started off another year of the Randy Watkins Junior Invitational. Even though it was hot and humid all the players came in with some very impressive scores. In the A division Camden Backel from Madison, MS came in with a four under round today and is in tied for first with Jacob Berry from Braxton, MS. There is also a tie for third as well between Davis Arthur from Tupelo, MS and Zachary Laird Smith from Madison, MS after they both came in with two under par rounds. In the B division Hayden White from Benton, LA is the overall winner after coming in with a six under par round of 66. August 17, 2014 - Troxler and Baggett take the win at Wesson

Wesson- It was a cloudy, humid day as the last day of the MS/LA Junior Championship comes to a close, all the players in every division came in with some very impressive scores.

In the A division Colin Troxler is the overall winner of the tournament after shooting a 69 today and finishing with an overall score of 137. In second place is Daniel Dahmash from Madison, MS after shooting a 70 and finishing with a 139, and in third place is Jonathon Newman from Summit, MS after shooting a 73 and finishing with a 143. In the B division Cameron Mobley from Brandon, MS came in first after he shot an amazing round of 70 and finishing with a 141 for his total score. In second place is Kade Pitts from Waynesboro, MS after shooting a 73 and finishing with a 147 for his total score, and in third place is Benjamin Nelson from Madison, Ms after shooting 77 and finishing with a 150 overall In the G division Presley Baggett from Canton, MS took the win after coming in with a 76 and shooting a 158 overall. In second place is Karley Whittington from Vicksburg, MS after coming in with a 83 and shooting a 163 for her total score, and in third place is Anne Carrie Swoope from Madison, MS after shooting a 102 and a 208 for her overall score. In the C division Brewer Hughes from Madison, MS takes the win after shooting a 75 and a 158 total score. In second place is Jacobi Polk from Hattiesburg, MS after coming in with a 77 and ending up with a 160,2 shots behind Brewer, and in third place is John Michael Miller from Gulfport, MS after shooting a 79 and ending up with a 162, only 4 shots behind the leader.  In the D division Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS took the win after shooting a 39 on the last day and finishing with a 76 after two days. In second place is Cameron Guidry from Picayune, MS also came in with a 39 and finished one shot back at 77, and in third place is Carson Butler from Clinton, MS he came in with a 41 and finished 2 shots back at 78. In the D Girls division Hannah Grace Nall from Starkville, MS came in first after coming in with a 49 and shooting a total of 91 after two days. In second place is Emma Wedgeworth from Soso, MS after coming in with a 57 and shooting a total score of 111. August 16, 2014-Troxler and Baggett Finish Round One at the Top

Wesson- Colin Troxler of Louisiana is our leader after round one of the MS/LA Junior. Troxler opened his 2014 tournament with a 4 under par 68. Right behind him is Daniel Dahmash who shot a 3 under par 69.

Rounding out the top three is Jonathon Newman, of Summit who shot an opening round 70.

In the B Division, Cameron Mobley, of Brandon is in the lead after his opening round 71. Right behind him is Benjamin Nelson, of Madison, who shot an opening day 73. Kade Pitts of Waynesboro, is in third after his first round 74.

The Boys C division, Andrew Bennett, of Zachary, Louisiana, is our leader after shooting a first round 79. Behind him we have a two way tie for second place between Brewer Hughes, of Madison, and Jacobi Polk, of Hattiesburg, who both shot a first round 83.

In our Girls division, Presley Baggett, of Canton, is our leader after her first round 78. Karley Whittington is two shots behind her, after her opening round 80. Rounding out the top three is Anne Carrie Swoope, of Madison, who shot a first round 106.

In the Boys D division we have a two way tie for first place. Tripp Rush of Philadelphia and Carson Butler of Clinton, both shot a one over par 37. Right behind them is Cameron Guidry, of Picayune, who shot a two over par 38. All three will be paired together in the final group to see who can come out on top.

In the Girls D division Hannah Grace Nall, of Starkville, is leading after her first round 42. Behind her is Soso’s Emma Wedgeworth. Wedgeworth fired a first round 54. Callie Mobley shot a first round 47 and is leading the Girls E division.

August 6, 2014-Team Mississippi Takes 3rd Place in the Southern States Junior Cup Matches

Cape Girardeau, MO-Twelve of Mississippi's top juniors teed it  up against the top juniors from Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Team Mississippi was reprensented by Karley Whittington, Lucy Martin, Blair Stockett, Michaela Bryan, Laura Phillips, Courtney Craven, Hunter Hammett, Andy Ogletree, Matt Liddon, Isaiah Jackson, Griffin Agent,  and Camden Backel. Mississippi had 1.5 points after the first day of four-ball and foursome matches. Mississippi won 8 of 12 possible points on Wednesday in the singles matches. Their great play on Wednesday moved team Mississippi into the third spot, just one point out of second place. The matches were played at the Dalhousie Golf Club. Click here for complete results.


July 31, 2014- Miller and Whittington Take Home State Junior Amateur Titles

Meridian-It was a beautiful week out at Northwood Country Club and everything went great as another year of Junior Amateur is wrapped up. There was some fierce competition in all the divisions and there were a lot of impressive scores.

 

In the A division Hayden Buckley from Belden, MS and Jonathon Newman from Summit, MS tied after Buckley came in with an even par score and tied Newman at three over par; they went into a 2 hole playoff where Hayden won after making a birdie on the second hole. In 3rd place is Austin Rose from Tupelo, MS after coming in with an impressive score of one under par he just narrowly missed tying Jonathon and Hayden by 1 stroke. In the B division after making a big comeback is Charlie Miller from Jackson who came in with a five under par- 66  to finish the tournament at even par and become the overall winner of the tournament. In 2nd place is Isaiah Jackson from Golden, MS who came in with an even par round to shoot five over par for the tournament, and in 3rd place is Matthew Scoville from Madison, MS who came in with a six over par round to shoot 218. In the Girls 16-18 division Carlee Nanney from Fulton, MS came in first after shooting nine over par and finishing the tournament at thirty two over par. In 2nd place is Courtney Craven from Corinth, MS who shot a sixteen over par round and ended up fifty two over par for her final score, and Sydney Cato from Ocean Springs, MS came in 3rd after shooting a twenty five over par round and ended up seventy eight over par for the tournament. In the Girls 13-15 division Karley Whittington from Vicksburg, MS was the overall winner of the girls after coming in with a twelve over par and shooting thirty one over par to take the win. In 2nd place is Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS who came in with an eleven over par round and ended up forty eight over par, and in 3rd place is Michaela Bryan from Belden, MS came in with a twenty five over par round and ended up seventy six over par. In the C division Tate Dickerson from Booneville, MS came in 1st after shooting a seven over par round and winning his division by just 2 strokes. In 2nd place is Moak Griffin from Columbus, MS who came in with an eleven over par round and ended up twenty four over par, and Brewer Hughes from Madison, MS came in 3rd after coming in with a nine over par round and shooting thirty four over par for the tournament. In the D division is Cohen Trolio from West Point, MS after coming in with an even par round he shot two over for the tournament and comes in 1st. In 2nd place is David Beard III from Madison, MS who shot two over par and ended up ten over par, and Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS came in 3rd after shooting ten over par and eighteen over par overall. In the E division Collins Trolio from West Point, MS takes the win after coming in three over par and eight over for his age group. In 2nd place is Brady Lagendyk from Meridian, MS who shot thirteen over par and finished twenty-two over par, and Max Van Pelt from Madison, MS came in 3rd after coming in with an eighteen over par round and finishing forty-nine over par overall. Meridian- It was a beautiful day today in Meridian, the weather for the 2014 Mississippi Junior Amateur could not be much better. The first round has come to a close and the course is proving difficult for some of our golfers. In the E division, Collins Trolio of West Point and Brady Lagendyk of Meridian are tied for the lead both shooting a 38. Daulton Nelson of Meridian is in third place with the score of 42. The leader of division D is Tripp Rush of Philadelphia with a first round total of 37. Close behind him is Cohen Trolio with a score of 38. In third is Wells Williams of West Point who shot a 41 today. Leading division C is Moak Griffin of Columbus with a score of 76. Tate Dickerson of Booneville is in second place with the score of 79 and Lucas Agent from Madison is in third place with an 81. In the Girls 13-15 division Karley Whittington of Vicksburg is in the lead with the score of 78. In second place is Blair Stockett of Jackson with a score of 96. Tupelo Country Club- It was a beautiful day out at Tupelo Country Club we got a little bit of rain and had to call the players, but thankfully it stopped in time for all the players to come in with some impressive scores.

In the A division Kirk Reeder from Tupelo, MS was the overall winner with a two over par round 146. In 2nd place Joseph Dendy from Brandon, MS shot an overall round of five over par 149 and in 3rd place Parker Sewell from Olive Branch, MS came in with an overall score of five over par as well. In the B division Cameron Clarke from Pittsboro, MS took the win after a 2 hole play off with Isiah Jackson from Golden, MS both shot four over par rounds of 148. In 3rd Davis Arthur from Tupelo, MS came in with an overall score of six over par 150. In the C division Tate Dickerson from Booneville, MS took the win with an overall score of nine over par 153. July 8, 2014- Clarke and Stockett take an early lead

Tupelo- Round one of the 2014 Pros of Tomorrow is in the books and one player sits at the top of the Boys 14-18 division. Cameron Clarke of Pittsboro, MS went back and flirted with red numbers at several different points during today’s round. With a bogey on the last whole, he still managed to have a one shot lead.

In the boys 16-18 division we have a tie at the top between Kirk Reeder, of Tupelo, and Parker Sewell, of Olive Branch; who have taken the early lead, with a one over par 73. We also have a tie for third place between Ray Stevens of Jackson and Joseph Dendy of Brandon, both players shot a three over 75.

In the boys 14-15 division CJ Easley of Batesville is in second place behind Clarke. Easley fired a three over par 75 in round one. In third place we have a tie between Davis Arthur, of Tupelo, and Matthew Scoville, of Madison, who both shot a four over par 76.

In the boys 12-13 division Tate Dickerson from Booneville, MS has an outstanding lead with a five over par round of 77. In 2nd place we have Kye Meeks from Walnut, MS after he shot an eight over par round of 80. We have 3 way tie for 3rd between Brewer Hughes of Madison, Moak Griffin of Columbus, and John Michael Miller of Gulfport with all of them shooting 9 over par of 81.

We have another tight tournament in the boys 10-11 division. Four players have managed to come in with a five over par 41 to tie for the lead in this division. Cohen Trolio, of West Point, Carson Butler, of Clinton, Tripp Rush, of Philadelphia, and Wells Williams of West Point, will all go into tomorrow’s round hoping to take home the title.

In the Girls Division we will have a tight finish tomorrow. Blair Hederman, of Jackson, has taken the early lead, after firing an opening round 78. Right behind her is Carlee Nanney, of Fulton, with a 79. In the third place we have Sarah Johnson, of Florence, who shot an eight over par 80.

July 2, 2014- Miles and Stockett take the wins at Cleveland

Cleveland Country Club- It was another beautiful day at the 2014 Sonny Andreofws Junior Invitational, it was another hot day and we got a little bit of rain but all the players got off in plenty of time and although it was a hot day the players came in with some impresive scores. In the A division Thomas Miles from Laurel, MS took the overall win with at one under par round after 2 days he also won a $500 scholarship.

Colby Howard from Belzoni, MS came in 2nd with and even par round and Noah Hill from Calhoun City, MS came in 3rd with an overall round of one over par. In the B division Cameron Clarke from Pittsboro, MS came in 1st with an overall score of two over par, Channing Curtis from Vicksburg, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of four over par and Will Kidder from Batesville, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of ten over par. In the C division Brewer Hughes from Madison, MS took the win with an overall score of twenty over par. In the G division Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS came in 1st with an overall score of thirty one over par, Bretlyn Phillips from Cleveland, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of fourty four over par and Lucy Martin from New Albany, MS came in 3rd with an overall score fifty two over par. In the D division Carson Butler from Clinton, MS came in 1st with an overall score of eight over par, Rawson Polizzi from Meridian, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of ten over par and David Beard III came in 3rd with an overall score of eleven over par. In the Girls E division Anne Locke Driggers from Greenville, MS shot an overall score of ninety four over par. July 1, 2014- Howard and Stockett are leading at Cleveland

Cleveland Country Club- It was a beautiful day at the 2014 Sonny Andrews Junior Invitational, it was scorching hot with tempuratures reaching almost one hundred degrees farenheit, but the kids kept cool and brought in some good scores. In the A division Colby Howard from Belzoni, MS came in with a one under round of seventy one and is the overall leader, Noah Hill from Calhoun City, MS brought in a one over round score of 73 and is in 2nd and tied with Thomas Miles from Laurel, MS who also came in with a one over par round of 73. In the B division Cameron Clarke from Pittsboro, MS is leading his division with a two over par round of 74, Channing Curtis from Vicksburg, MS is not far behind with a three over par round of 73 and Kade Pitts from Waynesboro, MS is in 3rd after coming in with a five over round of 77. In the C division Brewer Hughes from Madison, MS came in today with a eight over round of 81. In the G division Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS in leading with a nineteen over round of 91, Lucy Martin from New Albany, MS is in 2nd with a twenty-eight over round of 100 and Bretlyn Phillips from Cleveland, MS is in 3rd with a twenty-nine over round of 101. In the D division Rawson Polizzi from Meridian, MS is leading with a five over par round of 41 after just nine holes, David Beard III from Madison, MS is in 2nd with a six over round of 42 and Carson Butler from Clinton, MS is in 3rd with a seven over round of 43. June 26, 2014- Blakney takes it at Bay Pointe

Brandon- The final round of the Mississippi State Games began today with rain showers but calmed down to a cool day here in Brandon. Our champion of the A division is Brandon Blakney from Brandon, MS entering in a round of 71 today to bring him to a total of 144.

Lance Strickland from Meridian, MS came in second place with a score of 152 and J.B. Yates from Clinton, MS came in third with a score of 153. In the B division Cameron Mobley from Brandon, MS is our winner after shooting a 71 today to end the tournament at 148. Jackson Wedgeworth from Soso, MS finished in second place with a 159 overall. In third with a overall score of 160 is Channing Curtis from Vicksburg, MS.

The Boys C division ended with Brewer Hughes from Madison, MS in first place ending with a final score of 173. Jacobi Polk from Hattiesburg, MS came in second place with an overall score of 178 and in third came Eli Mitchell from Meridian, MS with an overall score of 180. Anne Carrie Swoope from Madison, MS is our champion in the G division, she finished at 240 overall.

In the Boys D division David Beard from Madison, MS took first place with an 81 on the tournament. Close behind in second came Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS shooting a 82 overall. Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS and Carson Butler from Clinton, MS tied for third place with an overall score of 84.

In the Boys E division Will Thompson from Meridian, MS wins in a two hole playoff over Connor Dunnigan from Jackson, MS with the score of 91 for the tournament. In third with the score of 101 is Will Thames from Meridian, MS. In the Girls E Division Audrey Chase from Madison, MS is our champion. We thank Bay Pointe Golf Club for hosting the event and the State Games for their sponsorship.

June 25, 2014- Blakney is leading at Bay Pointe

In the D division Carson Butler from Clinton, MS, David Beard III from Madison, MS, Rush Tripp from Philadelphia, MS, and Rawson Polizzi from Meridian, MS are all tied for 1st after shooting five over rounds of 41. In the E division Will Thompson from Meridian, MS is in 1st with an eight over round of 44, Connor Dunnigan from Jackson, MS is in 2nd after shooting ten over 46, and Will Thames is in 3rd with a fourteen over round of 50. In the Girls 5-9 division Audrey Chase from Madison, MS shot a seveteen over round and is leading her division. 


June 19, 2014- Liddon takes the win at Greenwood

It was another hot day in Greenwood today, but some of the players turned in some low scores. In the A division, Steve Pannel from Greenwood, MS took the win after shooting an overall score of 148,

Clayton Gray from Baldwyn, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of 151 and Ray Stevens from Jackson, MS came in 3rd with and overall score of 152. In the B division, Matt Liddon from Yazoo City, MS was the overall champion with an overall score of 145, Will Kidder from Batesville, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of 148 after shooting a one under par round of 71 and Jackson Wedgeworth from Soso, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of 155. In the C division Tate Dickerson from Booneville, MS came in 1st with an overall score of 156, Hunter Logan from Grenada, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of 162 and Brookes Hudson from Tupelo, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of 171. In the G divison Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS took the win with an overall score of 171 and Emily Simpson from Birmingham, AL came in 2nd with an overall score of 196. In the D divsion Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS came in 1st with an overall score of 84, David Beard III from Madison, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of 85 and Carson Butler from Clinton, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of 92. In Division E Collins Trolio took the the win with a three under par round of 69. In the Girls 5-9 division Hannah Grace Nall took the win with an overall score of 74 and Emerson Blair came in 2nd with an overall score of 111. June 18, 2014- Gray and Liddon Sit Alone at the Top in Greenwood

Greenwood- With temperatures reaching close to 100 degrees, a few players were able to turn in some low scores. In the A divistion, Clayton Gray of Baldwyn, MS is your leader, after he turned in his even par round. We have three different players two shots behind him.

Steve Pannell of Greenwood, Colby Howard of Belzoni, and Alex Benge of Ridgeland all came in with a two over 74. In division B Matt Liddon of Yazoo City, came in with an even par 72, to tie for the overall lead, and take the lead in his division. In second place Will Kidder, of Batesville, shot a 5 over par 77. Brooks Wing, of Saltillo, has found himself in 3rd place after his round of 79. In the C division Tate Dickerson, of Booneville, has a six shot lead over Hunter Logan of Grenada, who shot an 83. In third place, it is Hudson Brooks of Tupelo, who shot an 86. In the D division we have a tight race going into round two. Trip Rush of Philadelphia has the lead after his opening 41. David Beard of Madison finds himself 4 shots behind after his first round 45. Carson Butler of Clinton is one shot behind Beard, after his ten over par 46. In the Girls Division, we have Blair Stockett of Jackson leading the way after her first round 86, and Emily Simpson of Birmingham, Alabama is in second after her opening round 94. In the girls E division Hannah Grace Nall of Starkville, has the lead with her first round 37. Emerson Blair of West Point is in second after her 52 in the first round. June 11, 2014- Berry and Stockett Hold on for the win at Shadow Ridge

Hattiesburg- Although the course got a lot of rain yesterday Shadow Ridge was in very good condition for the 2014 Shadow Ridge Junior. In the E Division Hannah Grace Nall from Starkville, MS shot a 37 to win, Gracelyn Cooley from Sumrall, MS came in 2nd with a 63 and Ben Tanksley from Raymond, MS shot a 64 to come in 3rd. In the D Division David Beard III from Madison, MS shot a 37 to win, Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS shot a 39 to come in 2nd, and Carson Butler from Clinton, MS shot a 40 to come in 3rd.

In the C Division Sam Lee from Gulfport, MS came in 1st with an 84 and Jacobi Polk from Hattiesburg, MS shot an 85 to come in 2nd. In the G Division Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS took the win with an 80, Anna Fletcher from Vicksburg, MS came in 2nd with an 88, and Tristan Cooley came in 3rd with a 96.  In the B Division Carter Nicholson from Picayune, MS took the win with a 79, Patrick Powers from Gulfport, MS came in 2nd with an 82, and Kade Pitts from Waynesboro, MS came in 3rd with an 82. In the A Division Jacob Berry from Braxton, MS took the win with a 77, J.B. Yates from Clinton, MS came in 2nd with an 79, and Jonathon Newman from Summit, MS came in 3rd with an 80. June 9, 2014- Green, Pacheco, Papp all qualify for US Girls Junior

Choctaw- It was a beautiful day at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club to play the USGA Girls Qualifier. Virginia Green from Point Clear, AL took the win with a 2 over par 74. After a 2 hole playoff between Madison Pacheco from Pensacola, FL, Kaitlyn Papp from Austin, TX, Jordan Susce from Bessemer, AL, who tied at 3 over par, Pacheco and Papp made par on the 2nd hole and qualified for the US Girls Junior in Flag Staff, AZ. Jordan Susce and Aubree Jones will be the first and second alternates. Congradulations to these girls and best of luck in AZ. Thanks to everyone who helped make this tournament happen after strong storms hit the golf course, special thanks to Mark Powell and Superintendent Mike Stupica for helping us and keeping the course in such great shape all week. 


June 1,2014- Johnson and Gallagher with the win from the delta 

After a little bit of rain, that wasn't quite enough to stop play, we finished play at this year's Future Tour Championship. We had a 4 way tie between Philip Heine, Garrett Johnson, Sam Goldasich, and Andy Ogletree in the Boys Overall Division.

In the playoff Garrett came out on top after making par on the second hole. Garrett Johnson from Kimberly, AL also takes home the Boys 16-18 first place honors. Sam Goldasich wins the scorecard playoff for second place, Andy Ogletree gets third and Philip Heine gets fourth. In the Boys B Division Hunter Atkins from West Point, MS took the win after a 1 hole playoff, and there was a 2 way tie for 2nd at +4 par with Hayden White from Benton, LA and Trey DePriest from Lake City, AR In the Girls 13-18 Division Kathleen Gallagher from Greenwood, MS took the win for the third straight year with an overall score of -3 par, Conner Beth Ball from Madison, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +7 par, and Taylor Loeb from Maumelle, AR came in 3rd with an overall score of +9 par. In the Boys 12-13 Division Cj Easley from Batesville, MS took the win in his division with a total -3, Simms Abney from Madison, MS was in 2nd with and overall score of +3 par, and Brendan Winters from Spanish Fort, AL was in third with an overall score of +6. In the Girls 10-12 Division Rachel Heck from Memphis, TN took the win with an overall score of -3 par, Bailey Dunstan from Little Rock, AR came in second with an overall score of +5 par, and Lauren Lob from Maurnelle, Ark. came in 3rd with an overall score of +6 par. In the Boys 8-9 Division Kale Fontenot from Lafayette, LA shot even par for 2 days of play and won his division, Collins Trolio from West Point, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +1 par, and Connor Cassano from Alexandria, LA shot an overall score of +8 par and came in 3rd. In the Boys 10-11 Division Jay Nimmo from Benton, KY wins his division with an overall score of +8 par, Cohen Trolio from West Point, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +9 par, and Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of +10. In the Boys 5-7 Division Jackson Knight from Bellefontaine, MS took the win with an overall score of +17 par, Prentiss Furr from Jackson, MS came in 2nd place with an overall score of +26 par, and Wilson Macvaugh from Greenville, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of +42. In the Girls 9 and Under Division Anna Heck from Memphis, TN took the win with an overall score of -2 par, Emerson Blair from West Point, MS came in 2nd with an overall +15 par, and Paige Gibson from Saucier, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of +16 par. The Future Tour Championship would not be possible without the help of all the volunteers that came out to support the event. May 31, 2014- Ogletree and Gallagher looking to repeat

Greenville, MS- The 2014 Future Tour Championship is underway. After a rainy first day we have some familiar faces at the top of the leaderboard. Leading the way in the Boys A Division is Andy Ogletree from Little Rock, MS with a 71(-1) round, in 2nd place is Philip Heine with an even round of 72, and there is a 5 way tie at +1 par. In the Boys B Division Hunter Hammett from Hattiesburg, MS is tied for 1st with Trey Depriest from Lake City, Ark at +1 par and Hunter Atkins from West Point, MS is tied for 2nd with 2 others at +2 par. In the Girls 13-18 Division Kathleen Gallagher from Greenwood, MS shot a -3 round of 69 and is leading the division, Conner Beth Ball from Madison, MS is in 2nd with a +3 round of 75 and Katelyn Dunstan from Little Rock, AR is in 3rd with a +4 round of 76. In the Boys 12-13 Division Cj Easley from Batesville, MS shot a -1 round of 71 and is leading his division, Simms Abney from Madison, MS is in 2nd with and even round of 72 and Austin Coggin from Birmingham, AL is in 3rd with with a +2 par round of 74. In the Boys 10-11 Division Cohen Trolio is leading with a +3 round of 75 with Jay Nimmo from Benton, KY in 2nd with a +4 round of 76 and Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS is in 3rd with a +5 round of 77. In the Girls 10-12 Rachel Heck from Memphis, TN is leading the division with an even round of 36, Bailey Dunstan from Little Rock, AR is in 2nd place with a +2 round of 38 and Lauren Loeb from Maumelle, AR is in 3rd with a +3 round of 39. In the Boys 8-9 Division Collins Trolio from West Point, MS is tied for 1st with 2 others at +3 par. In the Boys 5-7 Division Jackson Knight from Bellefontaine, LA is leading the division with 29, Prentiss Furr from Jackson, MS is in 2nd place with a +8 round of 32 and Wilson Macvaugh from Greenville, MS is in 3rd with a +23 round of 47. In the Girls 9 and Under Division Anna Heck from Memphis, TN is leading the way with a -1 round of 23, Emerson Blair from West Point, MS is in 2nd with +7 round of 31 and Paige Gibson from Saucier, MS is in 3rd with a +11 round of 35. Noteable: Kyle Bennett made a hole-in-one on 12. Overall it was a good day, there was about a 30 minute rain delay but thankfully the players got back out there and finished.


May 29, 2014- Heine and Ball takes home first victory of the year

Oxford, MS- The 2014 Big I Qualifier was a major success we had a little rain delay but thankfully it passed through fast enough so that the players could finish. In the Boys A Division Philip Heine from Madison, MS shot an amazing -5 par to win the tournament and his division; Brandon Carpenter from Coldwater, MS came in 2nd in his division and the overall tournament with a -4 and Griffin Agent shot even par to come in 3rd in his division.

In the Boys B Division Cameron Clarke from Pitsboro, MS shot an overall score of -1 to win his division and come in 3rd in the overall tournament; Cameron Mobley from Brandon, MS shot an amazing 67 today to bring him down to +1 par for his overall score and to give him 2nd place in his division and Isiah Jackson and Cj Easley tied for 3rd with overall scores of +2 par. In the Boys C Division Tate Dickerson from Booneville, MS shot an overall score of+2 par to win his division; Moak Griffin from Columbus, MS shot an overall score of+4 par to come in 2nd and Wilson Baker from Tupelo, MS shot an overall score of +8 par to come in 3rd. In the Girls 13-18 Division Connor Beth Ball from Madison, MS shot an overall score of +5 par to take 1st; Carlee Nanney from Fulton, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +15 par and Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS came in 3rd with an overall score of+19 par. In the Boys D Divison Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS takes 1st with an overall score of -3 par; Tripp Rush from Philadelphia, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +12 par and David Beard III came in 3rd in his division with an overall score of +13 par. In the Girls 9 and Under Division Callie Mobley from Brandon, MS shot an overall score of +37 to win her division and Gracelyn Cooley from Hattiesburg, MS came in 2nd with an overall score of +52. May 28, 2014- Low Scores in Oxford, Clarke Leading the Way

Oxford, MS- Round One of The Big I Qualifier was a big success, there was a weather issue at first but thankfully the weather wasn't bad enough to stop play. In the Boys A Division Brandon Carpenter from Coldwater, MS and Philip Heine from Madison, MS both shot a 69 and Grant Renegar from Summit, MS and Beau Briggs from Alexandria, MS both shot a 71. In the Boys B Division Cameron Clarke from Pittsboro, MS is leading with a 68 and Cj Easley from Batesville, MS, Isiah Jackson from Golden, MS, and Brice Wilkinson from Madison, MS all shot a 71. In the Boys C Division Moak Griffin from West Point, MS is leading with a 75 with Tate Dickerson  from Booneville, MS and Wilson Baker from Tupelo, MS tied for 2nd with 77's. In the Girl's 13-18 Division Carlee Nanney from Fulton, MS and Conner Beth Ball from Madison, MS are leading with 79's and Blair Stockett from Jackson, MS is in 2nd with an 81. In the Boys D Division Hayes Hinson from Meridian, MS is leading with a 36 with Carson Butler from Clinton, MS in 2nd with a 38. In the Girls 9 and Under Division Callie Mobley from Brandon, MS is leading with a 51 and Gracelyn Cooley from Sumrall, MS is in 2nd with a 62.


May 2, 2014- Ian McAdams Joins the Staff

Jackson, MS- Former MJGA Intern, Ian McAdams has joined the MGA/MJGA Staff in a full time position. Ian will be our tournament manager and Junior Golf Director. Ian is from Madison, played golf at Madison Central, EMCC, and Belhaven University.

Ian is a Graduate of Belhaven University. Ian has vast experience working with the MJGA for three PJ Boatwright internships. " We are excited to have Ian join the MJGA staff in a full time capacity. He has a great relationship with our juniors and has a real passion for the game," Margo Coleman, executive director.


March 14, 2014-McDonald Named to the 2014 USGA Curtis Cup

Fulton's Ally McDonald was named to the 2014 USGA Curtis Cup Team on Thursday, March 13th. McDonald won the 2013 North & South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst last summer. McDonald is a junior on the MSU Women's Golf Team.

 

FAR HILLS, N.J. (March 13, 2014) - The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced the eight players who will represent the USA in the 2014 Curtis Cup Match, to be conducted June 6-8 at St. Louis (Mo.) Country Club.

 

The players are:

  *   Kyung Kim, 19, of Chandler, Ariz. (University of Southern California)

  *   Alison Lee, 19, of Valencia, Calif. (University of California, Los Angeles)

  *   Erynne Lee, 21, of Silverdale, Wash. (University of California, Los Angeles)

  *   Ally McDonald, 21, of Fulton, Miss. (Mississippi State University)

  *   Annie Park, 18, of Levittown, N.Y. (University of Southern California)

  *   Ashlan Ramsey, 18, of Milledgeville, Ga. (Clemson University)

  *   Mariah Stackhouse, 19, of Riverdale, Ga. (Stanford University)

  *   Emma Talley, 19, of Princeton, Ky. (University of Alabama)

 

"We are very proud of these eight women who have been selected to represent the United States at the Curtis Cup Match," said Daniel B. Burton, USGA vice president and chairman of the International Team Selection Committee. "While their playing records are exemplary, they also personify the ideals of sportsmanship, competitiveness and affability that are among the defining characteristics of this competition. We trust that they will represent their country in fine fashion come June."

 

The Curtis Cup Match is a biennial international women's amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland. Six-time USGA champion and two-time USA Curtis Cup Team member Ellen Port will serve as captain of the USA Team for the 38th Match.

 

"I am so proud of these players and excited for what is ahead for this team," said Port, a St. Louis native. "Representing your country in the Curtis Cup Match is one of the highest honors a female amateur player can receive, and I know these women are more than up to the task. We are all looking forward to June and the opportunities that are ahead of us."

 

Kim, a sophomore at USC, won the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship and has competed in the past three U.S. Women's Open Championships. She has three collegiate victories.

 

Alison Lee, a freshman at UCLA, was the runner-up at the 2012 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, reached the semifinals of the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and has competed in three U.S. Women's Opens. She captured two collegiate victories during her first semester at UCLA.

 

Erynne Lee, a junior at UCLA, has competed in two U.S. Women's Opens and has three collegiate victories. Lee, who has reached at least the quarterfinals at four U.S. Women's Amateurs, represented the United States at the 2012 Women's World Amateur Team Championship and the 2013 Copa de las Americas.

 

McDonald, a junior at Mississippi State, won the 2013 North & South Women's Amateur Championship. She has three collegiate victories, including the 2013 NCAA Central Regional, and has finished outside the top 25 only twice in her collegiate career.

 

Park, a sophomore at USC, in 2013 became the seventh freshman to claim the NCAA individual title and only the second woman in NCAA history to sweep the conference, regional and national titles. Park reached the quarterfinals of the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur and has competed in two U.S. Women's Opens.

 

Ramsey, a freshman at Clemson, was the runner-up to Kim at the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship and won three important events in summer 2013, including the Women's Eastern and Women's Western championships. She earned two victories during her first fall season at Clemson.

 

Stackhouse, a sophomore at Stanford, has four collegiate wins, including the 2014 UC Irvine Invitational, which earned her a spot in the LPGA's 2014 Kia Classic field. Stackhouse, who has competed in two U.S. Women's Opens, was a member of Georgia's winning team at the 2009 USGA Women's State Team Championship. She is also the first African-American player to be named to

the USA Curtis Cup Team.

 

Talley, a sophomore at Alabama, won the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and has competed in two U.S. Women's Opens. She won the 2013 PING-ASU Invitational and was named 2013 Southeastern Conference Freshman of

the Year.

 

All eight players are among the top 25 of the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking, with Park (No. 2), Alison Lee (No. 3), Ramsey (No. 7), McDonald (No. 9) and Kim (No. 10) in the top 10.

 

The alternates for the USA Team are, in order of ranking: Doris Chen, of Bradenton, Fla., and Lauren Diaz-Yi, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The Curtis Cup Match consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. Among notable past USA Curtis Cup Team members are U.S. Women's Open champions JoAnne Gunderson Carner, Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy, as well as past and present LPGA stars such as Beth Daniel, Jessica Korda, Stacy Lewis, Nancy Lopez, Dottie Pepper, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie.

 

GB&I won the 2012 Match at The Nairn Golf Club in Nairn, Scotland, 10.5-9.5, while the USA Team leads the overall series, 27-7-3.

 

Tegwen Matthews will again serve as captain of the GB&I Team, a position she held in 2012. The GB&I Team is expected to be announced on May 6.

January 29, 2014 - MJGA Feature Player of the week, CJ Easley

Batesville, Mississippi - CJ is the son of Kerry and Jamie Easley and is from Batesville, MS where he attends Pope School. CJ started playing with the MJGA in 2009 and has not had any trouble winning in any division that he has played in.

He has twelve wins, 24 top five finishes in only 26 events. He was our Boys D Division player of the year in 2011, when he also won the Junior Amateur in his age group. CJ has also been a part of five MJGA Junior Cup Teams, and also been a part of two of the past three Mississippi/Louisiana Junior Cup teams. Other accomplishments include the 2013 Optimist International 8th place finish, 2010 Future Masters where he tied for tenth place, 2011 Future Masters player.

CJ had this to say about his experiences, "The MJGA has meant a lot to me. I've met numerous people playing on the MJGA and I have made lifelong friends competing on the MJGA tour." CJ's future goals include playing collegiate golf and earning a degree.

We wish all the best to CJ during his 2014 season. We look for great things from this young gentleman as he continues to grow and reach his dreams!


January 22, 2014 - MJGA Feature Player of the Week, Simms Abney

Madison, Mississippi - Simms is the son of Alison and Luke Abney and is from Madison, MS. Simms burst onto the MJGA scene in 2009 and after getting his feet wet that year, has taken the tour by storm ever since.

Simms has eight wins, 22 top five finishes in only 31 events played. The best part about that is, that he is just now in the C Division. The 12 year old from Madison has also been a part of 4 MJGA Junior Cup Teams and two Mississippi/Louisiana Cup Teams. He was our 2013 Boys C Division Junior Amateur Champion, and also was player of the year for the D Division in 2012.

We look forward to many great accomplishments from Simms in the coming years. Best of luck in future endeavors on and off the golf course! 


Janurary 15, 2014 - MJGA Feature Player of the Week, Grant Renegar

Summit, MS - Grant is the son of Lisa Lewman and Chris Renegar and is from Summit, Mississippi. Grant has been a member of the MJGA since 2011. Over this time grant has made his impact on the MJGA tour in a short amount of time. Grant has one win and seven top five finishes in just eighteen attempts. He has been a part of the past two Mississippi Junior Cup teams. He has represented the state of Mississippi twice this year being a big part of the winning Mississippi team in the River Cup, against the state of Louisiana; and being a part of the Southern States Junior Cup Matches, against Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. In these two different match play events he did not lose a single match. "The MJGA has probably been the biggest part in my junior golf career", explained Renegar, "this past season was my best with the one individual win and the two team wins. The competition that came with the MJGA has pushed me to become the player that I am today.

Nationally, Grant has played in the American Junior Golf Tour and also had the opportunity to play in this year's Trusted Choice Big I National Tournament at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Although he missed the cut by just two shots, it was a great learning experience that many kids do not get the opportunity to take.

Grant is a senior this year at Parklane Academy in McComb, Mississippi, where he is part of their golf team. As for his future, Grant is currently visiting colleges, but does not know where he will take his game to the next level quite yet. With one more summer left to play on the MJGA tour we look forward to watching what is next in his young and promising career on and off the golf course.


January 8, 2014 - MJGA Feature Player of the Week, Matt Liddon

Yazoo City, MS - Matt is the son of Angie and Clark Liddon, and lives in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Matt is a ninth grader at Manchester Academy.

Matt has been a member of the MJGA since 2007 when he played in our youngest available division.

Since that time Matt has racked up seven wins and 28 top five finishes, been a part of six MJGA Junior Cup Teams, and two Mississippi/Louisiana Cup Teams. He may not be the tallest player in the field, but he usually has the biggest smile and the most determination to fight until the very end. Matt has seen success on and off the course. He finished second in the Boys Stat Amateur in 2012 and an AJGA qualifier in Benton, LA in 2013. One of his most honorable and proud moments was winning the MJGA Sportsmanship Award in 2012.

The MJGA has meant a lot to me. It has allowed me to meet new friends all over Mississippi and it has given me the opportunity to play with some great competition. One of my goals is to help the Manchester golf team win the State AA Championship. Also, I would like to play golf at a Division I school."

We wish Matt the best of luck through the remainder of his school year and look forward to seeing him compete in Mississippi Junior Golf and on the national scene. 


January 1, 2014 - MJGA Feature Player of the Week, Tristan Hernandez

Carthage, MS - Tristan is the son of Jacqueline and Chris Hernandez and is from Carthage, MS. Tristan has been a part of the MJGA since 2008. Over the past six years Hernandez has played in over 42 MJGA events and accumulated four wins and twenty five top five finishes.

He has been a member of three MJGA Junior Cup teams, two Mississippi vs Louisiana Cup Teams, and was also a part of team Mississippi that represented the state in the first ever Southern States Junior Cup matches, which features teams from Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Tristan has always had a big time presence on the MJGA tour from winning numerous long drive competitions and posting some really good scores. "The MJGA has meant so much to me," described Hernandez, " I have made some friends all over the South, that I will cherish for a lifetime. The staff at the MJGA has given me the opportunity to travel all over the state to some great golf courses in the state. Making memories and traveling with my Pawpaw to the tournaments are precious moments I will also cherish."

Tristan is a senior this year at Leake Academy. He hopes to finish out his high school golf career on a high note and then take his talents into college golf. He is currently traveling around visiting schools that he thinks might best fit into his life. We wish Tristan the best of luck in all that life has in front of him.
